Hips, knees, ankles, toes; Oh my : A path to Healthy Joints
About the first part of the series:
This first part of the series will find flexibility and ease in the lower joints (hips, knees, ankles and toes). The first part of the series will focus on finding simple and foundational movements and range in the hip joints, which will free tension in the knees, ankles and toes. Often times through stressful periods, accidents or trauma, humans develop habits which are contrary to functional movement. This series will allow you to deep dive into your movement patterns and change faulty movement patterns to functional movement patterns.
The most common faulty pattern is excessive bending in the knees, ankles and toes – which leads to pain in the hip joints and lower back. This series will help you develop more functional movement in the hip joints, so that the pressure put onto the knees, ankles and toes will reduce significantly.
The lessons will be on the back, on the stomach and in sitting – all to discover the enormous range of motion your hips actually have!
About the second part of the series:
The second part will follow along a series called “Heels Under the Pelvis” where you will slowly and confidently develop (in seven lessons) the ability to sit on your heels and feet with ease! The most important part of this movement is finding freedom in the hip joints, which is why it is important to do the first part of the series. Through the seven lessons, you will discover more flexibility in the toes and ankles which will make it even easier to sit on the heels.
What you will gain from this series :
- Ease in walking.
- Similar movement on both legs and ease from side to side while walking.
- More comfort sitting on the chair
- Being able to sit on the floor!
- Less pressure on the knees.
- Less pressure on the knees equals less anxiety and fear of falling.
- Strong and dependable flexibility in the lower joints.
* Please note that this series might not be a good place to start if you have previously had hip or knee surgery and don’t feel healed from that. The best way to start with Awareness Through Movement, is to start where it is easy. The class on Sunday at 9AM would be a better start if you have significant injuries in your hip joints and knees. Please message me to make sure this class is good for your if you are unsure.
"I loved how Andréa offered us different movement exercises that gave me a lot of insight on how I move through the world; even if we were on zoom, I could feel their presence and kindness. They were very generous in their teaching and support during and after classes. "
